Robert D. Crews
Robert D. Crews
The talk by Robert D. Crews, Professor of History at Stanford University, examines the revolutionary politics of Shi’i communities in Afghanistan and the diaspora from the 1970s to the present. It focuses on the emergence of new forms of political mobilization and novel conceptions of religious authority. The lecture also explores the rise of an Afghan Shi’i clerical elite and its aspirations both to transform Afghan politics and reshape the piety of a global diaspora.
