SASNET Travel Grant for Journalism Students

Travel grant for students at the School of Journalism (‘Journalistutbildningen’) at Lund University.

Eligibility criteria

The grant is intended to allow students to conduct fieldwork in South Asia during the Bachelor course in journalism at the Department of Communication and Media, Lund University. Applicants are expected to describe the proposed project and how they plan to use the grant in accordance with the instructions that are specified below.

The fieldwork must take place in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, or Bhutan. Funding will not be granted for fieldwork in a country or region that is included in the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ list of places that are not deemed safe to visit.  

Two students who intend to collaborate during the project and, thus, want to travel together, might share the grant equally. In that case, state this in the application.

25 000 SEK

Application requirements

Application deadline: 26 April 2024.

  • The applicant’s CV
  • Fieldwork plan (amounting to max. 6000 characters), including:
    • Project plan for reportage or thesis
    • Anticipated timetable
    • Description of preliminary research
  • A preliminary, realistic, and detailed budget describing all relevant expenses (e.g. flight tickets, accommodation, and other travel-related costs)
  • Study certificate 

Submitted applications are assessed by SASNET’s Director and Lecturers at the School of Journalism.
