At the recent Almedalen week, SASNET and UI hosted a seminar on current Indian policies and their relevance for Sweden and Europe as part of the institutes' joint South Asia Initiative.
On July 4, 2019, Henrik Chetan Aspengren (Research fellow, UI) moderated a panel with Henrietta Tjäder (Associate Fellow, UI), who gave an overview of the present political landscape in India and its domestic politics in view of the recent General Elections, and with Isha Dubey (Post-doc, SASNET), who introduced latest trends of Indian foreign policy.

India's contribution to global economic growth is already significant today and is expected to increase. The country is increasingly active in the world political arena and its relationship with neighboring countries affects the entire region's security. During the last term of office, poverty rates in India have continued to decline, the economy is growing and the modernization of the administration has begun. At the same time, unemployment is increasing, the gap between rich and poor remains wide and intolerance towards the country's minorities has increased.
