26 September. SASNET Panel Discussion: "India Post Election: the Future of the World's Largest Democracy"

A public panel discussion in Swedish at the Lund Public Library on the future of and in India. The panel participants are Malin Mendel, (India correspondent, SVT) Ted Svensson, (Associate Professor of Political Science at Lund University), and Henrik Chetan Aspegren (Swedish Institute of International Affairs). The event is moderated by SASNET Director Catarina Kinnvall.

11 October. SASNET Seminar with Dianne Kok: "Household Energy Transition in Metropolitan and Rural Nepal"

A SASNET seminar with Dianne Kok, awarded the Best South Asia Thesis Award of 2023/2024. During this event, she will present her thesis: "Household Energy Transition in Metropolitan and Rural Nepal: Analysing Meaningful Energy Transition through the Energy Cultures Framework".

17 October. SASNET Public Lecture with Naila Saleem: "2 Years Since Chaos: the Sri Lanka Election"

A public lecture with Naila Saleem (South Asia Correspondent at Swedish Radio) on the 2024 Sri Lanka Election and its consequences. In collaboration with the Association of Foreign Affairs in Lund. Free and open to the public.

24 October. SASNET Seminar with Ipshita Basu: "Reclaiming Indigeneity and Democrcy in India's Jharkhand"

A SASNET seminar on indigeneity and democracy in the state of Jharkand in eastern India, with Ipshita Basu from the University of Westminister. Ipshita Basu is a political sociologist specialising in development justice for indigenous communities and marginalised groups in contexts of change and conflict.

14 November. Conference: The Future of Human Rights in Afghanistan: Between Rule and Agency

SASNET and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) are hosting an international conference on the current state of human rights in Afghanistan. The conference "Advancing Human Rights in Afghanistan: Between Rule and Agency" aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and critical reflection on the current state of human rights in Afghanistan.

26 November. SASNET Seminar with Janwillem Liebrand: "Whiteness in Engineering: Tracing Technology, Masculinity and Race in Nepal's Development"

A SASNET seminar with Assistant Professor Janwillem Liebrand (Utrecht University), presenting his book Whiteness in Engineering. Why do technology-based interventions tend to reinforce dynamics of race and gender discrimination in society?

3 December. Workshop: "Rivers, Sacred Values, and Environmental Attitudes"

A SASNET co-hosted workshop concluding the project 'Divine Ganges, Profane Development: Sacred Geographies and the Governing of Pollution', funded by the Swedish Research Council.

13 December. SASNET Seminar with Shilpi Rajpal: "The Making of Modern Indian Psychiatry: Nationalization and Internationalization of Mental Health Policies"

A SASNET seminar on the making of modern Indian psychiatry, with social historian of psychiatry and postdoc Shilpi Rajpal (University of Copenhagen). Her research focuses on the local, national, and global histories of psychiatry in colonial and post-colonial India.
