As we witness a global movement against racism, it is imperative to analyse the distressing currents and ideologies around colourism, racism and the normalisation of prejudice practiced by one of the world’s largest diaspora populations. The panel will address the long history of film, tv and publishing industry in India and abroad to ask why racist representations persist.

Our panelists for the event are:

Dr. Rohit K Dasgupta - He is Senior Lecturer at Loughborough University. He is also an elected Councillor & Commissioner for Social Integration & Equalities in the London Borough of Newham. He is the author of Digital Queer Cultures in India.

Dr. Bhakti Shringarpure - She is Associate Professor of English at the University of Connecticut and founding editor of Warscapes magazine.

Dr. Aruni Kashyap - He is a writer and translator. He is the author of His Father’s Disease and Other Stories (Context/ Westland Books, 2019) and the novel The House With a Thousand Stories (Viking/ Penguin Random House, 2013). He is an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Georgia, Athens.

Dr. Amrita Ghosh - She has a postdoc from Linnaeus University Sweden, where she worked on two books on Kashmir and Tagore-Yeats, which are currently under contract. Presently, Ghosh is a visiting researcher at SASNET, Lund. Ghosh is the co founder editor of biannual literary journal Cerebration.
