SASNET visited the University of Chicago and the 47th Annual Conference on South Asia in Madison

SASNET director Andreas Johansson and SASNET researcher Admir Skodo attended the 47th Annual Conference on South Asia in Madison, Wisconsin and presented their work in meetings and panels.
The conference saw the participation of over 1,000 scholars, students, and professionals in a three-day event featuring research panels, round tables, lectures, performances and film screenings. The conference has grown every year since its inception in 1971. Andreas met with several scholars, presented the South Asia initiative, and met with the American Institute for Sri Lankan Studies to talk about future collaborations. Admir presented his research paper entitled “The External and Internal Control of Afghan Asylum Seekers in Sweden in the 1980s and the 1990s” on the on the panel entitled South Asian Diaspora: Negotiating Borders, Belonging, Separation, and Identity.
Andreas and Admir also met with Bruce Lincoln, Professor Emeritus at the University of Chicago and talked about the prospects of the history of religion in Sweden and USA.
