Anni-Elina Vänskä joins SASNET

Anni-Elina Vänskä

Anni-Elina Vänskä will do an internship at SASNET during the autumn semester of 2019. Anni's work tasks will include event management, web and social media content management, photography, illustration, writing reports and articles as well as conducting research.

Anni-Elina began specialising in South Asia during her bachelor’s in International Studies at Leiden University in The Netherlands and continued during her master’s in Asian Studies at Lund University. Her main interests include increasing awareness on human rights and women’s rights struggles in South Asia. Her research has focused on human rights violations and gendered violence in India. In her bachelor’s thesis, she looked at media representation of rape culture in India. For her master’s thesis she conducted research in affiliation with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai and studied young women’s perceptions of public safety in Mumbai, regarding the risk of sexual harassment. Throughout her studies, she has spent nine months in India for the purpose of traveling, improving the fluency of her Hindi and most recently doing an internship for the Nordic Centre in India in New Delhi.
