Re-imagining Water Resource Engineering In India

The Centre for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES) and SASNET will host a joint lecture with Indian water expert and former sull-time activist Shripad Dharmadhikary at the LTH Division for Water Resources Engineering.

Shripad Dharmadhikary is an Indian activist, researcher and founder of Manthan Adhyayan Kendra, a research centre that studies water and energy issues from the perspective of just, equitable and sustainable development. Shripad was a full time activist of the Narmada Bachao Andolan for 12 years, fighting against the contruction of several large-scale dams along the Narmada river in Gujarat, Madhya Pradhesh and Maharashtra in India.

Shripad will talk about the need to re-imagine water resource engineering particularly in the context of important emerging policy objectives of environmental flows, rejuvenating rivers and keeping rivers alive, and meeting basic needs of all on a priority basis. The lecture will be followed by a Q&A session.
