2020 was a turbulent year, but despite the pandemic-related challenges, we at SASNET can look back on a wide range of activities carried out to bolster knowledge and research on South Asia at Lund University and in the Nordic region. We established and strengthened collaboration within Lund University and with organisations and partners around the world through various formats, including webinars, publications, podcasts, networking, and conferences.
While we could not realise all of our initial plans for 2020 due to the global pandemic, the sudden disruption to our usual operations also opened many windows of opportunity for us at SASNET, particularly in relation to digital formats. Almost exactly one year ago, our first SASNET Podcast episode was released, followed by ten more, featuring economists, medical and public health experts, and media researchers from across the South Asian region, among others. We also launched our bimonthly SASNET Webinar series and were fortunate to host amazing seminars with speakers and participants from around the globe. With newfound confidence in hosting virtual meeting formats, we decided to end the year with our first online conference, "Rethinking the Politics of Memory in South Asia," in December 2020 with over 60 international panelists and more than 100 attendees.
