The grants, covering travel expenses for applicants to do fieldwork in a South Asian country, are provided by the South Asian Students Association (SASA) at Lund University, in collaboration with SASNET. The applicants must be enrolled at Lund University to be eligible to apply. Applications are ranked based on the quality of the project proposal, relevance of the research, grades of the applicant and the experiences as listed in the CV. 
Erika and Niklas will both go to Sri Lanka for their field work. Erika is working on a project entitled ”The oppressed minds of Sri Lanka", focusing on common people, their everyday life and fears from the effects of the long civil war that ended in 2009. She also intends to find journalists from both private media and from the mediahouses run by the government, to later on compere their thoughts about the freedom of speech in the country. Niklas project – entitled ”The long wait for good or bad things to come” – has a similar aim, to study how the country is recovering from the civil war, talking to ordinary citizens about their lives during the civil war and how it has changed after it.
