From 2002 to 2007 she taught history and gender studies at the University of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania State University, where she was a tenure-track professor in world history and women’s studies. Anna returned to Sweden to become the director of SASNET, a position which she held from 2007 to 2016. She developed and led an NGO for refugees in Sweden in 2017 and 2018. Her current research interest is the Afghan diaspora, especially forced migration and deportation, and the role of informal networks and organizations in Sweden as well as in Afghanistan. She is presently editing a book of life stories by refugees.
As a SASNET-affiliated researcher, Anna Lindberg plans to organize workshops and conferences addressing forced migration and gender in South Asia.
