SASNET News:
• Vice-Chancellor Boel Flodgren has now officially established SASNET as a Special Activity at Lund University from 1 July 2001. The network root node at Lund will be attached to the International Office. Within short, the positions as director/co-ordinator and webmaster/secretary will be announced. Deadline for applications: 10 August 2001.
• Boel Flodgren has also decided the composition of SASNET’s first board for the period 1 July 2001 to 31 December 2003

• Berkshire Publishing Group, England, seeks scholars with some editorial experience to participate in the six-volume Encyclopedia of Asia 2002 as Associate Developmental Editors.
• The situation for Indology studies in Göteborg is critical since the Dept. for Comparative Philology and Sanskrit was closed down at the end of year 2000.
• The Palme–Linnaeus International Exchange Programme offers grants to University Teachers and Students for the year 2001-2002. Last date for applications: August 1.

• Åsa Tiljander Dahlström, Department of Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology at Uppsala University defended her doctoral thesis ”No Peace of Mind – The Tibetan Diaspora in India”, on June 6, 2001.
• Hans Hadders at the Dept. of Social Anthropology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, has written on ”The Gift of the Eye. Mortuary ritual performed by the Jadopatias in the Santal Villages of Bengal and Bihar, India”.
