Fall 2016

Erika Bergman and Niklas Lindberg, two Masters students from the Journalism programme at Lund University, were awarded the SASA travel grants for the Fall 2016.

Erika and Niklas both went to Sri Lanka for their field work.

Erika Bergman

Erika worked on a project entitled ”The oppressed minds of Sri Lanka", focusing on common people, their everyday life and fears from the effects of the long civil war that ended in 2009. She also intended to find journalists from both private media and from the mediahouses run by the government, to later on compere their thoughts about the freedom of speech in the country.

Niklas Lindberg

Niklas project – entitled ”The long wait for good or bad things to come” – had a similar aim, to study how the country is recovering from the civil war, talking to ordinary citizens about their lives during the civil war and how it has changed after it.
